Jim Neel Establishes a Solo Law Practice Representing Employers
A Board Certified Labor & Employment Law Specialist

James M. Neel was the founding partner in Houston’s first boutique labor law firm in 1972.  He was a named partner in that firm until recently, when he decided to change to a solo practice, continuing to utilize his expertise exclusively representing employers in all aspects of Labor and Employment Law. This representation includes counseling employers before they act and/or arguing before agencies such as OSHA, EEOC, DOL, NLRB, and the TCHR if they have acted without counseling.

Jim provides services to management in all areas affecting the employment relationship.  His vast experience helps him continue to achieve success.  Jim Neel is a fighter and vigorously represents his clients achieving winning and satisfying results in the full range of Labor and Employment Law.  His areas of specialization include:

  • Assisting with advanced planning with employers to achieve desired objectives;
  • Negotiating labor contracts;
  • Representing Employer's arbitration cases under collective bargaining agreements;
  • Discrimination, retaliation and sexual harassment cases;
  • Representing employers in agency hearings;
  • Defending against union organizational efforts and other actions;
  • Claimed violations of the wage and hour laws;
  • State and federal employee safety laws; and
  • Providing supervisor training.

Dealing with all of the major unions in the private sector, Jim has also represented municipalities in their dealings with firefighters, police officers and other municipal employees. He has successfully represented employers in wage and hour disputes before the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor and in court cases arising under the Fair Labor Standards Act.  He has won verdicts for employers in both state and federal courts against plaintiffs on claims of race, sex, age discrimination and/or retaliation claims.

Jim has contributed to the legal profession by his active participation in many arenas.  He has taught Title VII litigation at the University of Houston, written for and lectured at numerous CLE (Continuing Legal Education) seminars across the country.  He is a contributing co-author of the Texas Association of Business Employment Law Handbook.  He is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has been since its inception in 1975, and has served as Chairman of the Section on Labor and Employment Law for State Bar of Texas. While at the University of Texas, he was selected as an Editor of the Texas Law Review and was elected to The Chancellors, an honorary society recognizing scholastic achievement.
